General Rules

  • Players must be registered by the second week of games. No changes will be made to rosters after that date
  • Team rosters must consist of minimum 6 players.  Three of the six rostered players must be women.
  • Each team will be limited to twelve (12) players on their roster. All players must be at least seventeen (17) years of age.
  • Only rostered players are allowed to play in the playoffs.
  • Six player teams must have two (2) women on the court at all times
  • Five or less player teams must have one (1) woman must be on the court at all time.
  • Games may be played with a minimum of 3 players, with one woman on the court at all time.
  • Net height eight (8) feet.
  • The ball may be played with any part of the body.

Game Rules

  • The team that first scores twenty-five (25) points in a game shall win that game.
  • A team must win by two (2) points, and there is no cap.
  • Play all games to 25 (time permitting) , all three count in the standings. If time runs out during the third game, the team ahead, is consider the winner of the game. 
  • Each team is permitted a one-minute time out during each set.
  • If a team has 5 players, they must forfeit their serve after every 5th rotation. This will allow the team with a full squad to serve back-to-back.
  • If a game is played with 3 or 4 players the team does not have to forfeit a point during the serve rotation of the missing player.
  • Captains toss a coin for choice of serve and court.
  • The team that did not serve the first game will serve the second game. When a third game is needed, serve will be decided with new coin toss.
  • Teams exchange courts at the end of each game.
  • No player may encroach on the opponent's court. The centerline under the net may be stepped on, but not over.
  • Each team may not play the ball more than three times before it is returned over the net.
  • If a ball touches the boundary line, it is good.
  • A player may run outside his own court to play a ball.

Service Rules

  • To legally serve the ball, a player’s last contact with the ground before contacting the ball must be behind the back service line.
  • The ball is considered in play if the ball contacts the net before going over (net serves are allowed). The net serve is considered in-play, unless 1) it does not continue over the net or 2) lands outside the opposing team’s court-side untouched by the opposing team.         
  • The receiving team can NOT attack the ball on a serve (i.e. spike or block).
  • The team that did not initiate service in a game must rotate one position clockwise prior to its first service.
  • After the serve, front line players may switch positions at the net.
  • Only one toss per serve attempt

Ball In Play Rules

  • Simultaneous contacts are legal when the ball is played. If 2 players on the same team contact the ball simultaneously, it counts as one contact, and any player may play the ball.
  • Players may contact the ball with any part of the body above the waistline.
  • When a ball touches a boundary line, it is considered in play.

Spikes

  • Any front-line player may spike the ball at the net. Back-line players may spike providing they takeoff with both feet behind a line 9'10" from the net.
  • Spiking the ball with two hands is illegal

Blocking Rules

  • Back row players are permitted to block.
  • A block does not count as a team’s first play.
  • The receiving team is not allowed to block or spike a served ball.
  • The team that has affected the block shall have the right to three more contacts, with the blocker having the right to make the first of the three allowable hits.

Contacting the Net

  • The ball may be played off the net (other than when served) as long as the ball does not contact the net outside the sideline markers. 

Substitutions

  • There are NO substitutions
