Referees should plan to come with a whistle. Please make sure you also bring plenty of water and sneakers. *New* Referees need to keep track of all scores and turn them in at the end of the day after all of the games.
All NPSC referees should be certified. Junior certification is also accepted.

All referee's must be at least 15 years in age. Anyone that would like to be a referee with NPSC for our Recreational Volleyball should fill out the availability forms below and email them to [email protected]. Any questions about the season or getting certified to referee should also be directed to [email protected].
Please make sure you fill out a W9 Form and turn it in to us so we can process your payroll at the end of the season. You can view and print the W9 form [HERE]. Referees will get paid at the end of the season. For questions about the rate of pay, please email [email protected].
Payment for Games:
Referees will be paid once each season within two weeks after the completion of the season. If you do not receive your check, please email Lisa Garner at [email protected]. All referees must submit a W9 tax form before payment can be made. You can click .......{Here} for the form.
Referees who miss or arrive late to ANY of their scheduled games may be deleted from future schedules and their pay rate will be lowered for their games already worked.
Before games are assigned to a referee, the referee must complete the following forms and send it an email back to the coordinators. To be scheduled to referee you must fill out a referee availability form and email it to [email protected], drop it off at our office or mail it into 365 West Shirley Ave, Warrenton, VA 20186.
Referee Score cards - {Report} - Must be used at each games
Referee Game Report - This must be completed after each weekends games for each game you worked.

Official (R1 or up referee) - Volleyball Referees
The referee is the official that stands on the referee stand (raised platform) positioned at on the side of the court across from the team benches. It is the referee that starts play by whistling and signaling (beckoning) the server to serve the ball.
The referee is the official in charge.
THE REFEREE...
Whistle any violations It is the referees responsibility to whistle any and all violations they see.
Whistle player mishandling the ball Only the referee has the authority to whistle ball handling (lifts, double contacts, 4 hits, etc.).
Giving Sanctions Only the referee has the authority to issue sanctions to players, coaches, etc.
