Summer Field Hockey Camp

Field hockey is a fast-moving team sport that uses eleven different positions, combining offensive and defensive positions as well as requiring a unique skillset PLUS a good level of cardiac fitness, speed, agility and flexibility to achieve maximum effect and penetration. While that might sound daunting, once you have learned the basic skills of field hockey, you will find that you are more adept at improving certain aspects of those skills, and you might decide you would like to play a different field hockey position.

Field Hockey consists of 4 positions. Midfield, fullback, defense and goalkeeper. Each field hockey position requires a unique set of skills that are based on the common basic field hockey skills – hitting, pushing, trapping, tackling and dribbling. Learning the basic skills of field hockey will help you to hone into individual skillsets that will improve your game. The program will be

Age groups are broken in the following groups:
Grade 1-5
Grades 6-12

Key Dates:

Grades 6-12 - 7PM-8PM

Cost of the Camp is $100.00


Camp will be held at Athey Sports Complex, in Warrenton, Va.  Field location will be sent out with email after registration.

Coaches Bio

Trainer Andrew Ssekikubo 

Coach Andrew has been coaching field hockey the last two years at the high school level, and has been attending camps and taking courses about the sport. In addition to coaching field hockey; Andrew has also been coaching soccer for 6 years from the youth level to the high school level. His goal is to set high standards for the players so they can learn to push themselves, their teammates and have fun at the same time.  Andrew is the junior varsity head coach at Thomas Jefferson High School for the past two seasons.

Equipment Needed: 

All players will need the following equipment
  • mouth guards
  • field hockey stick 
  • shin guards
  • gloves
  • comfortable playing shoes
  • masks are optional
